Hizzah! We can now all rejoice in knowing that the annualized and somewhat exhausted franchise known as, Assassin’s Creed, will be getting a new installment. Today, Ubisoft confirmed the recently rumored Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag.
There has also been a lot of rumor and speculation as to who will be the new protagonist in this upcoming swash-buckling game. From what I hear it isn’t just one protagonist, but five. The rumored lead characters are Henry Rollins, Greg Ginn, Chuck Dukowski, Dez Cadena, and Robo. They will all be Assassins in this new installment. (Crazy, RIGHT?!) It has also been rumored that Keith Morris will play the lead antagonist, as well as cameos throughout the game from the many other band members.
Not only will the game have some original members but it will also score the entire discography of Black Flag. You will hear songs such as Wasted, No Values, TV Party, Six Pack, and many more. Obviously, all songs that go along with any pirate theme.
So, you rum-guzzling eye-patch-wearing gamers, look to Monday as Ubisoft releases more information regarding this punk rock, alcohol-fueled, swash-buckling game.
(You know, I really stopped caring about Assassin’s Creed after this last one. Assassin’s Creed 3 was the make-or-break game for me and it just didn’t deliver. I tried the first one and it didn’t grasp me. I liked the second game, but Brotherhood and Revelations just seemed like more of the same. And the third one sunk its teeth into me early but I quickly lost momentum. Albeit fun in certain parts, Assassin’s Creed 3 felt like the same game as all the others but with a new veneer. Just because you slap on a shiny colonial motif, add a new protagonist, and staple in some new game play doesn’t mean that the core mechanics that built this franchise are still fun. It just feels worn and stale.
What I think it boils down to is that this franchise isn’t for me. I need to come to the realization at times that it is okay to not like every game. So, I guess for now I’ll just have my little fun and parody this game.)
